In this heartfelt episode of The Modern Sages Podcast, Shaman Candace and Spirit Medium Jenn share personal stories and spiritual insights on meeting and healing the Inner Child through Shamanic Journey Work.
Through the shamanic lens, the Inner Child lives within the Lower World — the realm of memory, innocence, and deep emotional truth. It is here, in the roots of the Tree of Life, that we can meet the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden, forgotten, or outgrown, and bring them back into the light of love and awareness.
“The Lower World isn’t a place of darkness — it’s where the light of your soul first learned to grow.”
Inner Child Work is the process of returning to the emotional experiences that shaped us — not to dwell in the past, but to bring compassion, understanding, and light to what still lives within us.
These wounds, often formed in childhood, can influence how we see ourselves, relate to others, and experience the world around us.
Regardless of how small or severe the wound may seem, every person carries imprints from childhood that affect their present-day life. By journeying into the Lower World, we meet these inner aspects directly, allowing our subconscious to communicate through imagery, emotion, and sensation.
Through Lower World journey work, we are given the opportunity to unravel coping mechanisms that once kept us safe but now limit our growth.
By bringing subconscious memories and emotions into conscious awareness, we ignite a spark of self-love — reconnecting to our innocence, creativity, and joy.
This journey is one of integration, not rejection. It’s the process of bringing home the parts of ourselves we abandoned long ago and remembering that we are already whole.
